| Text messages aimed at phishing information from unemployment claimants | ||

CONTACT: Tom Fuller WorkSource Oregon Employment Department 503-947-1301 Thomas.e.fuller@state.or.us The Oregon Employment Department has a warning for all Oregonians receiving unemployment insurance benefits through the use of the ReliaCard Visa debit card. The department has been notified that some unemployment insurance claimants have been receiving text messages stating that their account has been de-activated. The message then instructs the claimant to re-activate their account by calling a phone number. Once the number is called, the claimant is asked to enter confidential account information. This is a suspected phishing operation, the illegal practice of gleaning personal information. Neither the Oregon Employment Department nor U.S. Bank, who issues the ReliaCard Visa debit card, communicates with unemployment insurance claimants through text messaging. Claimants who receive this text message should disregard it, or call the number on the back of their ReliaCard. -30-
